Burnley Secures Seventh Summer Signing with Chelsea’s Lesley Ugochukwu
Burnley has officially signed Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, marking their seventh new player of the summer as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.
The highly rated 21-year-old French international has signed a five-year contract with the club for an undisclosed fee, the Clarets secured his signature despite serious competition from several top clubs across England and Europe.
Ugochukwu shared his excitement about the move,”It’s a great feeling to sign for Burnley.” He mentioned that conversations with manager Vincent Kompany and fellow Frenchman Maxime Estève convinced him of the club’s vision and ambition.
He said, looking forward to the really exciting time ahead “It feels like this is the perfect move for me at this stage of my career.”
Chelsea originally signed Ugochukwu from Rennes for £23 million in 2023. He made 15 appearances for the Blues and spent last season on loan at Southampton, where he scored one goal in 31 appearances.
The addition of Ugochukwu to the team, significantly strengthens Burnley’s midfield, which had appeared leaked and empty, ever since Josh Brownhill left.
The midfielder joins a list of new summer arrivals including Max Weiss, Quilindschy Hartman, Axel Tuanzebe, Loum Tchaouna, Kyle Walker, and Jacob Bruun Larsen.
It seems to be a busy week for the Clarets, who are also reportedly in advanced talks with Chelsea for striker Armando Broja.
The club is also in discussions with Newcastle United’s Martin Dubravka to replace goalkeeper James Trafford, who recently returned to Manchester City.
